The joint border patrol team on intelligence-based patrol in Kebbi State intercepted 6,240 sacks of dynamite explosives en route to Kebbi.
The operation, conducted along the Yauri-Jega road, led to the apprehension of two suspects and the confiscation of the hazardous materials.
Kebbi State Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Ernest Iheanacho, revealed that the explosives were concealed in a canter vehicle bearing registration number Zur 882 ZY.
The driver, identified as Abdullahi Aliyu, was promptly arrested at the scene. Investigations uncovered that Aliyu intended to hand over the explosives to Alhaji Mustapha Garba Jega, the designated recipient. A Haojue motorcycle believed to be linked to the transportation of the explosives was also seized.
The Customs command said they’ve handed over the materials to the Department of Security Services (DSS) for safekeeping. Mr. Tony Oduwalu, representing the state director of DSS, commended the collaborative efforts between agencies.
Both entities formally signed the handover documents before the physical transfer of the explosives. “I hand over these explosives to you on behalf of the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs, who instructed me to do so,” stated the Customs official.
