The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced its imminent commencement of refined petroleum product production following the receipt of the 6th batch of one million barrels of crude oil needed for its initial operations.
In a statement issued on Monday, the company expressed readiness for production, marking a significant milestone for the world’s largest single-train refinery.
The latest cargo of one million Agbami barrels of crude, delivered via MT ALMI SUN, completes the initially scheduled six million barrels consignment required for the refinery’s commencement.
The crude oil has been arriving in batches, with the first one million barrels received a month ago from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited.
Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Akin Omole, conveyed that the refinery would be prepared to begin operations once the full six million barrels of crude had been delivered. The initial run of the refinery is expected to facilitate the production of diesel, aviation fuel, liquefied petroleum gas, and subsequently, Premium Motor Spirit.
This development is anticipated to address fuel supply challenges not only in Nigeria but also in West African countries. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, designed to process 650,000 barrels per day, is equipped to handle 100% Nigerian crude and other African grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crudes from various sources.
According to the company, the refinery is poised to meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel.
Furthermore, it is expected to have a surplus of these products for export, providing a significant boost to the region’s energy landscape.
