Dangote Refinery Suspends Petrol Sales To Unregistered Marketers

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has suspended sales of petroleum products to unregistered marketers, effective September 18, 2025.

All self-collection gantry sales have been halted, with marketers now required to use the refinery’s Free Delivery Scheme, which ensures direct shipments to registered retail outlets. Payments made for self-collection after the effective date will not be honored.

A statement from the refinery’s management said: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we implement this operational adjustment.”

The move comes amid disputes involving the refinery, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN). NUPENG has accused the refinery of resisting the unionization of its truck drivers despite a government-brokered agreement, while DAPPMAN criticized the Free Delivery Scheme, alleging that it forces marketers to rely on the company’s fleet at commercial rates.

Investigations also uncovered a fuel diversion racket, where some marketers supplied discounted products to unregistered third parties for profit. A company spokesperson said: “This measure is aimed at maintaining steady fuel supplies, supporting registered marketers, and ensuring competitive pricing nationwide.”
