Nigerian music star Davido has expressed a desire to take on an acting role in the movie industry, stating that he would love to play the character of a taxi driver on screen.
He made the disclosure while speaking at the Africa International Film Festival AFRIFF during a panel session focused on the Afrobeat movement and its influence on African films.
Davido explained that he is interested in taking up a movie role that is unexpected and different from what many people would assume for an artist of his status. According to him, “I want to do a role that would see me act as a taxi driver or something out of the blue. Something people would not expect from me.” He said stepping into acting would be a refreshing addition to his entertainment journey.
He revealed that a friend once suggested a role for him in a movie but he turned it down because he prefers a more unusual character. Davido added that he is intentional about choosing a role that will surprise fans and showcase a different side of his creativity beyond music and stage performances.
The award winning singer also noted that he is inspired by American rapper 50 Cent who has successfully transitioned into acting and film production. Davido stated that seeing musicians thrive in film encouraged him to consider exploring the same path, not just as an actor but also in movie production.
Davido further shared that he aims to tell authentic African stories when he eventually steps into filmmaking. He said he looks forward to collaborating with African creatives to produce films that reflect real African experiences, culture and narratives that resonate globally.
His comment has generated excitement among fans and movie lovers who believe Davido’s talent and personality would make him a natural fit for the screen. Many are eager to see him debut in Nollywood or other African film productions in the near future.
