Lagos To Implement Night-Time Traffic Diversion For Truck Barrier Installation

Diversion affects Fadeyi–Donmanlong and Ojuelegba corridors overnight

The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary night-time traffic diversion at Fadeyi inward Donmanlong and Donmanlong inward Ojuelegba to allow for the installation of truck-restriction barriers as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and traffic management across the metropolis.

The announcement was made on Friday in Lagos by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who explained that the diversion would take effect from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 11.

According to Osiyemi, the installation work necessitates a brief closure of sections of the affected bridges, but the operation has been deliberately scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to daytime traffic and commercial activities.

“Consequently, motorists are advised to use the highlighted routes during the nighttime installation of the barriers,” the commissioner said.

He provided alternative routes for road users during the diversion period, noting that motorists approaching from Fadeyi Donmanlong Bridge or Ayilara inbound Ojuelegba are to use the service lane via Fadeyi, Jibowu, Empire and Donmanlong, before linking Barracks Road to reach their destinations.

Osiyemi appealed to motorists to remain calm and patient while traffic officials manage movement around the installation area, stressing that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to achieve long-term safety benefits.

He explained that the planned night-time closure forms part of the state’s broader traffic management and accident-prevention strategy, aimed at reducing the risk posed by heavy-duty vehicles on key urban corridors and bridges.

The commissioner also warned against vandalism, urging road users and residents to protect public infrastructure.

“Motorists are advised to desist from vandalism and damage to truck barriers, as such actions undermine government efforts to safeguard lives and property,” he said.

Traffic management personnel, including officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), will be on ground to ensure smooth vehicular flow and compliance with the diversion plan throughout the exercise.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety and urged residents to cooperate fully with traffic officials during the period of the diversion.
