The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a cautionary statement regarding upcoming protests in various parts of Nigeria.
According to the DSS, while peaceful protests are a democratic right, there is credible intelligence suggesting that some individuals and groups intend to hijack these demonstrations to incite chaos and violence.
The DSS revealed that these planned protests, which are politically motivated, aim to destabilize the federal and sub-national governments, ultimately seeking a regime change.
The Service said they have identified the funding sources, sponsors, and collaborators behind the plot but prefers non-violent means to address the issue.
The DSS has called on all protest groups to avoid actions that could lead to anarchy and destruction. It emphasized the importance of dialogue and patience with the government’s efforts to address economic grievances.
The Service also urged various societal leaders, including industry captains, labor unions, student associations, youth leaders, civil society organizations, clergy, NGOs, women’s groups, civil servants, and politicians, to reject any invitations to join the planned protests.
Parents, guardians, traditional leaders, and academic heads are encouraged to dissuade their wards and students from participating in the protests. The DSS stressed the need for national unity and peace, warning that violence only leads to the loss of lives and property, hindering governance.
