Dual Appointments Spark Confusion In Kano Emirate.
The Kano emirate has witnessed a peculiar development with the appointment of two individuals as Galadimas by different emirs. The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, appointed Alhaji Munir Sanusi Bayero, the district head of Bichi, as the new Galadima of Kano. Meanwhile, the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, appointed Alhaji Sunusi Lamido Ado Bayero to the same position.
The Galadima is a senior traditional advisor who provides guidance and counsel to the emir. The dual appointments have raised questions about the legitimacy and authority of the two emirs and their respective appointees.
In a related development, Emir Sanusi appointed four additional senior traditional councillors to various positions within the emirate, including Wamban Kano, Turakin Kano, Tafidan Kano, and Yariman Kano. The appointments were made with the aim of strengthening the emirate’s traditional council.
The situation in the Kano emirate remains complex, with the dual appointments and rival claims to authority potentially impacting the stability and unity of the emirate.
