Dukku Hill Collapse Claims Lives Of 8 Almajiri Students

In a tragic incident in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, a portion of Dukku hill collapsed, resulting in the loss of eight young lives belonging to the Almajiri community. The catastrophe occurred in the Badariya area, sending shockwaves through the community.

Malam Dan Umma, the head teacher, recounted the harrowing events, expressing deep anguish over the loss. He explained that the collapse took place on a Saturday morning, catching everyone unaware.

The cries of people alerted him to the disaster, where he discovered a significant section of the hill had fallen on the Almajiri students, instantly claiming eight lives. One fortunate individual was rescued from the rubble and is currently receiving medical attention in a local hospital.

The tragic incident shed light on the precarious living conditions of the Almajiri students, who resided in close proximity to the hill. Not only did they use the area for basic necessities like toilets, but they also collected clay from it to mold clay blocks for constructing a small room.

The Dukku Hill, once a vast natural landmark, has now become encroached upon by residential buildings due to population growth and housing challenges. The collapse serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by such geographical features in densely populated areas.

The community came together to mourn the loss and offer condolences to the local Islamic cleric, who was deeply affected by the tragedy. The victims were laid to rest according to Islamic rites, as the entire community grappled with the profound loss.

Alhaji Dahiru na Yaya, the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi local government, described the incident as an act of God and offered prayers for the departed souls.
