Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, has assured that the state government will continue to support Edo Queens Football Club for greater achievements.
He made the remarks in Benin City when he received the team after their impressive third‑place finish at the inaugural Governor Douye Diri Women’s Preseason Football Tournament in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Receiving the third‑place trophy on behalf of the team, Idahosa praised the players for their determination and outstanding performance throughout the week‑long tournament. He said, “We are here as a government to always encourage you, and we appreciate this cup you have presented to me on behalf of my principal. The Edo Queens FC have made us proud again. On behalf of Governor Monday Okpebholo, I congratulate you all. You are great ambassadors of our state.”
The Deputy Governor also commended the efforts of the Edo State Sports Commission Chairman, Desmond Amadin Enabulele, and Head Coach, Moses Aduku, for steering both Edo Queens and Bendel Insurance FC to prominence. He expressed optimism that Bendel Insurance FC would continue to excel in the ongoing season.
Chairman Enabulele noted that the Bayelsa preseason tournament served as a crucial platform to assess and strengthen the team ahead of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season. He highlighted, “Team Edo did very well. We were the only side that did not concede a goal throughout the tournament.”
Head Coach Moses Aduku unveiled the team’s new slogan, “Second is not an option,” expressing confidence that Edo Queens would build on their preseason success to challenge for top honours in the upcoming league season.
The Deputy Governor reiterated that the state government remains committed to providing the necessary support to ensure Edo Queens FC achieves excellence on both national and regional stages.
