Edo Government Recovers Three Missing Vehicles.
The Edo State Government has recovered three of the over 200 vehicles declared missing from state property. This development comes shortly after Governor Monday Okphebolo inaugurated a 12-member committee to track down and retrieve government vehicles reportedly in private hands.
The committee, chaired by Kelly Okungbowa, was inaugurated on Thursday and has a two-week mandate to submit its findings. Speaking to journalists on Friday, Okungbowa announced that within 24 hours of its inauguration, the committee had successfully recovered three vehicles, including a Hilux truck and two Toyota Hiace buses.
One of the recovered vehicles was found containing palliatives meant for the people of Edo State.
“Yesterday, we were inaugurated. We promised to follow the law in carrying out the mandate of the governor, which is to recover all missing government vehicles in private hands,” said Okungbowa. “I am glad to announce that we have recorded success within 24 hours by recovering three vehicles.”
He further reassured the people of Edo State that the committee is determined to recover all missing vehicles. “Reports reaching us indicate that over 200 government vehicles are missing. We urge Edo residents to share information on these stolen assets. Whistleblowers will be rewarded,” he added.
Governor Okphebolo, who was sworn into office on 12 November to succeed Godwin Obaseki, previously accused the outgoing administration of looting state properties. However, the former governor has denied these allegations.
The recovery of the vehicles marks an early success for the new administration in its efforts to ensure accountability and protect public assets. The committee’s progress will be closely monitored as it works to fulfil its mandate within the stipulated timeline.
