Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Chief Security Officer to late Gen Sani Abacha, Hamza Al Mustapha, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Shehu Gabam, and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Segun Sowunmi, held a strategic meeting on Tuesday.
The quartet met to review the state of opposition democratic engagement in Nigeria.
Posting on X, Sowunmi wrote: “You must set forth at Dawn, a strategic meeting called by HE Shehu Gabam, Chairman of SDP, with HE @elrufai, El-Rufai, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, Otunba Segun Sowunmi.
The alternative, to meet and greet and review the state of opposition democratic engagement in Nigeria.”
This comes after El-Rufai dismissed rumours that he had dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, for PDP.
Rumours circulated that El-Rufai might likely defect to PDP.
However, the former governor responded: “Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the leading peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers.”
In 2022, presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala had claimed that El-Rufai would defect to PDP before the 2023 general election.
El-Rufai had similarly dismissed the report, responding on X: “Thanks @BwalaDaniel but no, thanks. Never ever, not even my corpse will be found in the vicinity of your newfound political party. I still dey laugh.”
