Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC) against the state police command, alleging “serial violations,” “unprofessional conduct,” and “abuse of office” by some officers.
The petition, addressed to the PSC and made public on Monday, September 8, accuses the Kaduna Commissioner of Police and some officers of engaging in actions contrary to their duties since assuming office on December 30, 2024.
El-Rufai claimed that his earlier petition to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, did not address his concerns about the actions of the officers, prompting him to escalate the matter to the PSC. He emphasized the need for citizens to support the PSC in enforcing discipline and promoting ethical conduct within the police force.
The former governor did not provide details of the alleged misconduct in the petition, but sources close to him suggested it was linked to recent police actions targeting some of his political allies. The Kaduna State Police Command had invited El-Rufai and six top members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning over alleged conspiracy, incitement, and disturbance of public peace.
El-Rufai’s petition to the PSC underscores the growing tension between him and the current Kaduna State government. The development has raised concerns about political instability in the state, which is already grappling with insecurity and communal tensions.
