Enyimba Part Ways With Coach Yema, Appoint Stanley Eguma As New Head Coach.

Nine-time Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Enyimba International FC, have announced the departure of their head coach, Olanrewaju Daniel Yema, following a difficult period of nine winless matches across league and continental competitions.

The club’s recent struggles, including two defeats in continental tournaments and a series of draws in the domestic league, prompted the management to make this tough decision. While acknowledging Yema’s significant contributions, the management believes a change is necessary to restore the team’s competitive edge.

Fondly referred to as “Yema” by fans, the outgoing coach played a crucial role as an assistant to former head coach Finidi George, helping the team achieve a 3rd-place finish in the 2023/24 NPFL season and secure qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup. The club expressed its gratitude for his efforts and wished him success in his future endeavours.

In a decisive move, Enyimba has appointed Stanley Eguma, a respected figure in Nigerian football, as their new head coach. Eguma, who was part of Enyimba’s coaching team during their CAF Champions League triumphs in the early 2000s, returns with a wealth of experience and a proven track record.

Eguma is best known for his remarkable tenure with Rivers United, where he guided the team to multiple successes, including NPFL titles. His appointment marks a homecoming to Enyimba, with fans and management hoping he can revitalise the club and lead it back to domestic and continental glory.

Eguma’s immediate focus will be to stabilise the team and rebuild confidence among the players. His deep understanding of the NPFL and tactical expertise make him a strong choice to steer the “People’s Elephant” through this challenging period.

Supporters eagerly anticipate Eguma’s debut as head coach, with hopes high for a revival of the glory days that made Enyimba one of Africa’s most formidable football clubs. This new chapter presents an opportunity for the team to reassert itself at the top of Nigerian and African football under Eguma’s leadership.
