Manchester United Faces Europe Ban Due to Ownership Conflict
Manchester United is facing a potential ban from participating in European competitions next season following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a minority stake in the Premier League club.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe also owns OGC Nice, currently positioned fifth in Ligue 1. However, UEFA’s regulations regarding multi-club ownership suggest that both clubs may not be permitted to compete in the same tournament.
While UEFA has made slight adjustments to its rules, allowing clubs under common ownership to enter different European competitions starting next season, the restriction on these teams participating in the same tournament remains in place.
A UEFA insider clarified the situation, stating, “It is correct that Manchester United and Nice cannot play in the same competition. They could play in different competitions, as there is no ‘feeding’ between competitions anymore.”
This development raises significant implications for Manchester United’s European campaign, pending further decisions and clarifications from UEFA regarding the ownership conflict.
