Ethiopian Airlines Boosts Abuja Connectivity With New Flights From October 2025.
Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier, has announced plans to enhance its operations in Nigeria by introducing three additional weekly flights to Abuja, starting 28 October 2025. The announcement, made by the airline’s Nigeria Area Manager, Mrs Firiehiwot Mekonnen, underscores the airline’s commitment to meeting the growing travel demands in the Nigerian capital and supporting its emergence as a hub for international conferences and events.

The new evening flights, operating at 10 p.m. from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, will complement the existing daily midday service, bringing the total to ten weekly flights between Abuja and Addis Ababa. Mrs Mekonnen highlighted that the additional flights, operated by modern Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, will offer passengers seamless connections to over 150 global destinations, including key African and Asian cities such as Dubai, São Paulo, and Tel Aviv. “Passengers from Abuja will have increased options, with faster connections that reduce total flight time,” she said.
The expansion comes with added perks for travellers. Passengers flying to select destinations, including Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Dubai, will benefit from an increased baggage allowance and the opportunity to earn double ShebaMiles rewards. “These extra flights are not just about more options; they come with benefits to reward our loyal passengers,” Mekonnen noted, emphasising improved service delivery and cost savings for travellers.
The move aligns with Abuja’s growing prominence as a destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism, bolstered by the recent reopening of the Abuja International Conference Centre. Ethiopian Airlines, which has served Nigeria since 1960 with advanced aircraft like the Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner, aims to support this trend by offering greater flexibility and convenience for business and leisure travellers alike.
The airline’s expansion in Abuja follows its recent doubling of daily flights to Lagos, reflecting its strategic focus on Nigeria as a key market. With connections to cities like Lagos, Enugu, and Kano, Ethiopian Airlines continues to solidify its position as a leading carrier in Africa, delivering world-class service and fostering stronger ties between Nigeria and global destinations.
This development has been warmly received, with travel industry experts praising the airline’s proactive approach to meeting Nigeria’s aviation needs. As Abuja gears up for increased international activity, Ethiopian Airlines’ enhanced schedule is set to play a pivotal role in facilitating smoother and more efficient travel.
