Everton To Appoint Sean Dyche Ahead Of Marcelo Bielsa

Everton have settled on appointing Sean Dyche to succeed Frank Lampard after a report revealed three major reasons he’s beaten Marcelo Bielsa in the race.

Who would succeed Lampard in the Toffees hotseat came down to two candidates – Bielsa and Dyche. Both held talks with Everton on Thursday, though according to Sky Sports, it’s the former Burnley man who’ll now be appointed the club’s next manager.

Bielsa was understood to be the preferred option of majority owner Farhad Moshiri. However, three major drawbacks have seen the 67-year-old Argentine overlooked.

Sky stated appointing Bielsa – along with the huge coaching staff he brings – would cost the club around £1m a month.

That lofty sum put Everton’s nose out of joint, while they were also reluctant to completely overhaul their entire coaching set-up.

Thirdly, the Toffees wanted someone with extensive Premier League experience and presumably, a candidate who is adept at dealing with relegation scraps.

Dyche fits that bill far better than Bielsa, and the report states he is ‘expected to be appointed Everton manager on Friday.’

While Sky’s reporting suggests Everton have simply chosen Dyche over Bielsa, it’s important to note various other outlets, such as the Sun and Daily Mail, report Bielsa ‘rejected’ Everton.

Whether that’s the case, only time will tell. However, it did become clear the ex-Leeds favourite did have major concerns over whether a spell at Goodison Park would be successful. In any case, Dyche is the man Everton have seemingly turned to.

The Everton job will be the third in his managerial career after managing Watford between 2011-12 and Burnley between 2012-2022.

Dyche earned rave reviews for the work he did at Turf Moor, especially while working on a shoe-string budget.

He’s known as something of a relegation firefighter and given Everton’s current position, that’s exactly what they need.
