Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has broken his silence following his removal by President Bola Tinubu, describing his 39 years in military service as the most fulfilling period of his life.
The retired general made the remarks during his ceremonial pull-out parade held in Abuja, marking his official exit from the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Speaking at the event, General Musa expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve as the Chief of Defence Staff, noting that the appointment was a privilege and an honour. “As I hang my uniform today, I do so with a clear conscience, knowing that I gave my all in service to my country,” he said.
The former defence chief reflected on his years of service, stating that despite his retirement, “the soldier’s heart beats on forever.” He urged members of the Armed Forces to remain loyal, professional, and united in safeguarding the nation’s security and sovereignty.
Musa also congratulated his successor, expressing confidence that the Nigerian military would continue to uphold discipline and integrity under new leadership. He called on citizens to keep supporting and praying for the troops who continue to defend the country in difficult conditions.
His removal came as part of a recent shake-up of the nation’s security leadership by President Tinubu, which affected several service chiefs. The restructuring was said to be aimed at improving the country’s overall security architecture.
The retired general concluded his address by reaffirming his commitment to national peace and unity, promising to continue contributing to Nigeria’s growth and stability even outside active service.
