The Forum of State Chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has distanced itself from a recent visit by some members to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The group said the visit was a personal move and did not reflect the Forum’s position.
“The gathering at Atiku’s residence was meant to give a misleading impression of support,” the Forum said.
The chairmen also revealed that some members were allegedly lured by financial incentives from opposition leaders. Despite this, 20 state chairmen remain loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.
The Forum called on APC leadership to address the continued marginalization of the CPC bloc.
“This is a time for the Presidency and APC leaders to reflect and address the growing alienation of the CPC bloc,” the statement added.
The group reaffirmed loyalty to CPC leaders including Senator Tanko Al-Makura, Aminu Masari, and Tajudeen Abbas.
Meanwhile, Atiku, who has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is reportedly building a coalition to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 election and may join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-SGF Babachir Lawal are said to be collaborating with him.
