Exclusive: National Assembly 2024 Budget Breakdown Unveiled

The approved budget for the National Assembly in 2024 has been disclosed, outlining allocations for various crucial sectors.

The House of Representatives secures a substantial sum of N78.624 billion, while the Senate is allocated N49.145 billion.

The National Assembly Office is granted N36.727 billion, with N30.807 billion earmarked for general services. Legislative aides are set to receive N20.388 billion, ensuring the smooth functioning of parliamentary affairs. Notably, N15.189 billion has been designated for the Service Wide Vote.

A noteworthy allocation of N15 billion has been dedicated to the National Assembly Hospital project, emphasizing the commitment to healthcare within the parliamentary community. Meanwhile, the National Assembly Service Commission is allocated N12.326 billion.





In a bid to enhance research and knowledge, N12.123 billion is allocated to the National Assembly Library Complex as a take-off grant. Additionally, N10 billion is directed towards the ongoing construction of the National Assembly Service Commission headquarters.

Crucial educational institutions under the National Assembly umbrella also receive attention.

The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies is granted N9.008 billion, while N4.5 billion is allocated for the completion of the ongoing National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies building.

Leisure and recreational facilities are not overlooked, as N4 billion is assigned to the National Assembly Recreation Centre.

The National Assembly’s commitment to research is further underlined by a dedicated N4 billion for the design, construction, furnishing, and equipping of the Budget and Research Office.

Focusing on infrastructure upgrades, N3 billion each is allocated for the Senate and House of Representatives car parks. Key infrastructure within the National Assembly is set to undergo a significant boost, with N3 billion directed towards upgrades.

The assembly’s commitment to information dissemination is highlighted by a dedicated N3 billion for the design, construction, furnishing, and equipping of an ultramodern printing press. Committee meeting rooms are not neglected, with N2.7 billion and N3 billion allocated for the furnishing of Senate and House of Representatives meeting rooms, respectively.

Addressing pension concerns, the National Assembly Pension Board is granted N2.5 billion as a take-off grant.

The office of retired clerks and permanent secretaries receives N1.230 billion.

In addition to these allocations, N1 billion is set aside for the vital task of constitution review. Specific committees crucial to the oversight function of the National Assembly are allocated funds, with N130 million earmarked for the Public Accounts Committee in the Senate and N150 million for its counterpart in the House of Representatives.

The Senate Appropriations Committee and the House of Representatives Appropriation Committee each receive N200 million for their essential roles in budgetary matters.
