Zlatan Ibile, the Nigerian rapper and singer, has revealed that failing his mathematics and accounting exams was the turning point that launched his music career.
The setback prevented him from gaining admission into university, forcing him to rethink his future and explore alternative paths.
He shared in an interview with Nandi Madida on Apple Music 1 that the disappointment of missing out on university studies pushed him closer to music, a field he had been interested in since childhood. “Failing those exams was tough, but it made me focus on what I truly loved,” Zlatan said.
Initially, Zlatan’s early recordings were far from perfect, but the support and encouragement from his family motivated him to continue pursuing music seriously. Their confidence in his talent gave him the boost he needed to stay committed despite challenges.
His dedication to music grew stronger when he participated in the Airtel One Mic Talent Show in 2014. Though he had no formal training, his performances impressed the judges and audience, marking the beginning of his rise in the Nigerian music scene.
Drawing inspiration from his journey, Zlatan released his album Symbol of Hope, which reflects his experiences and aims to inspire others facing setbacks. He explained that the album was created to motivate young people, especially those from humble beginnings, to persevere and chase their dreams.
Zlatan’s story is a reminder that obstacles can sometimes redirect individuals to their true calling. He encourages others to view failures as opportunities for growth, emphasizing resilience, self-belief, and determination as key ingredients for success.
