Nigerian rapper Falz has shared the challenges of living a double life as a lawyer and musician.
In a recent episode of the Madam Joyce podcast, Falz revealed how he juggled his law practice by day and music career by night.
Born Folarin Falana, Falz admitted that balancing both careers was no easy feat. He disclosed that the legal profession has an “unspoken rule” prohibiting lawyers from engaging in other activities while practicing law.
Falz recounted a memorable experience in court where his dual identity nearly got exposed. “I announced my appearance as ‘Folarin the Falana, appearing for the plaintiff.’ The judge seemed aware of my music career and asked if I wasn’t ‘doing something else on the side’.”
Falz rose to fame in 2009, using his music to address societal issues and bad governance. His popular tracks include “Wehdone Sir,” “Child of the World” and “Talk.” His impressive career has earned him multiple awards, including “Album of the Year” at the 2016 City People Entertainment Awards.
Aside from music, Falz holds an LLB in Law from the University of Reading, England, and has made a mark in Nollywood, debuting in “Couple of Days” (2016).
