The Federal Government has issued a strong warning, stressing serious punishments for any sort of maltreatment, molestation, or abuse against children. The admonition came during a visit by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, to Junior Secondary School, Kagini in Kubwa, FCT, Abuja.
Expressing the unequivocal commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration towards the psychological and physical well-being of children, Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that the government remains resolute in ensuring the protection of children’s rights. “Every Nigerian child has the right to grow and function effectively in society,” she stated, underlining the government’s declaration of zero tolerance for all forms of maltreatment and abuse against children.
Citing the significance of providing children with a conducive environment for growth and learning, the Minister stressed the vital role children play as the future of the nation. She highlighted the adverse effects of maltreatment on children’s behavior and social development, emphasizing the need for a nurturing environment conducive to their overall development.
Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye reiterated the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the future of the nation by ensuring the well-being of its children. She called upon school management and staff to administer discipline with love and compassion, cautioning against any form of maltreatment.
Furthermore, the Minister urged students to embrace positive values such as determination, hard work, and obedience to constituted authorities, as essential components for achieving success in life.
