In a bid to address the longstanding challenges plaguing Nigeria’s power sector, the Federal Government has pledged to tackle the root causes, aiming for lasting solutions.
This commitment was reiterated by Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu during a press briefing following a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders at the Oyo State secretariat of the party in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
Minister Adelabu emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s determination to revolutionize the power sector, asserting, “The government of President Bola Tinubu is ready and determined to change the face of things in the power sector, to change the game in the power sector.”
Highlighting the comprehensive approach, Adelabu outlined plans to address issues across the entire power sector value chain, including gas supply, generation, transmission, distribution, and customer service. He assured Nigerians of imminent improvements, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring adequate, stable, functional, and reliable power supply for all citizens.
Acknowledging the transitional challenges, Adelabu urged patience from Nigerians, likening the process to repairing a road, where temporary inconveniences lead to eventual gains. He stressed the need for collective understanding and support during this period of transformation.
Moreover, addressing the metering gap, Adelabu revealed President Tinubu’s establishment of the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI), allocating a seed capital of approximately N75 billion.
The PMI aims to install at least 2 million meters over the next five years, consolidating various mass metering initiatives under one umbrella to expedite the project’s implementation.
Minister Adelabu expressed unwavering determination to resolve the power sector’s challenges, assuring Nigerians of imminent positive changes.
