The Federal Government of Nigeria and the World Bank have renewed their commitment to improving electricity access for 300 million people across Africa by 2030, focusing on power sector reforms in Nigeria.
During a meeting between the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and World Bank Vice President for Infrastructure, Guangzhou Chen, both parties emphasized the urgency of reforms aimed at enhancing productivity in Nigeria’s power sector.
The meeting, held on Thursday and announced via the Finance Ministry’s official X handle, highlighted Nigeria’s role in the Mission 300 project, a joint initiative of the World Bank and African Development Bank to provide electricity across Africa by 2030.
Edun stated President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to implementing critical energy reforms that would improve efficiency and expand electricity access to meet the needs of Nigeria’s growing population.
Key attendees included Ndiame Diop, World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, and officials from the Office of the Special Adviser on Energy to the President.
