Federal Ministry Clarifies No Sale Rights Granted For 753 EFCC-Seized Houses.
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has issued a firm statement to dispel rumours surrounding the sale of 753 housing units seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The properties, linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, have not been authorised for sale, and no company or consultant has been appointed to manage their disposal, the ministry confirmed.
In a statement released on Saturday, 16 August 2025, Badamasi Haiba, the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, addressed concerns raised by reports of fraudulent activities. A company, Pink Synergy Global Company Limited, had falsely claimed to be the official auctioneer for the estate, allegedly soliciting funds from unsuspecting Nigerians for non-existent expression of interest forms. The ministry clarified that these claims are entirely unfounded, with no sales process having commenced.
The housing estate, located in Abuja, was recently handed over to the ministry by the EFCC following a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The ministry is in the early stages of managing the estate, with plans to establish a technical committee to assess the condition of the properties. This committee will conduct integrity tests, evaluate infrastructure requirements, and develop a transparent strategy for the eventual sale of the units, ensuring they meet habitability standards.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, emphasised the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in handling the estate. The ministry has warned the public to be cautious of scammers attempting to exploit the situation, with some fraudsters reportedly demanding N500,000 for access to supposed sales slots. Nigerians are urged to verify any information directly with the ministry through its Departments of Public Building and Housing Development or Press and Public Relations before making any financial commitments.
The ministry reiterated that a clear and comprehensive announcement will be made once the sales strategy is finalised, in line with President Tinubu’s directive. This will ensure the process aligns with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises inclusivity and public trust in the housing sector.
The public is advised to remain vigilant and rely solely on official communications from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
