Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe Bans Staff From Engaging In Mining Activities During Work Hours

The management of the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe (FTH) has issued a directive prohibiting its employees from engaging in cryptocurrency-related activities or any form of mining while on duty.

The decision comes in response to concerns that such activities are distracting staff from their primary responsibility of attending to patients.

In an internal circular, the hospital management emphasized that while employees are free to pursue other interests when off duty, engaging in crypto trading or mining during work hours is unacceptable. The directive aims to maintain focus on patient care, which the hospital considers a top priority.

Adamu Usman Tela, the Deputy Director of Administration at the hospital, confirmed the development during an interview with Trust Radio on Thursday. “We took this step even before receiving any complaints because taking care of public health is the first priority,” Tela stated.

To ensure compliance, the hospital has deployed SERVICOM, ACTU, and security officers to monitor staff activities and enforce the ban. The circular also noted that mining and cryptocurrency activities have become increasingly popular in Nigeria, including among salaried workers.

The hospital’s decision underscores its commitment to ensuring that patient care is not compromised by distractions during working hours.
