Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is in the process of vacating the prestigious Governors’ quarters in Lagos, according to reliable sources from The Nation.
Emefiele was accompanied by a team led by CBN Special Investigator, Jim Obazee, as he moved his personal belongings from the residence situated on Glover Road, Ikoyi.
The move comes amidst fresh legal troubles for Emefiele, as the Federal Government has filed 14 new charges against him based on a report submitted by the CBN special investigator.
The charges include allegations of criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to conduct forgery, procurement fraud, and conspiracy to commit a felony. Emefiele’s removal from the position of CBN Governor in June 2023 by President Bola Tinubu preceded these accusations.
Additionally, the Senate has announced plans to investigate the utilisation of the N30 trillion “Ways and Means” loans obtained and spent by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Senate alleges that the reckless spending of these funds, under Emefiele’s tenure, significantly contributed to the ongoing food and security crises in the nation.
