In a recent interview with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Former President Muhammadu Buhari acknowledged the likelihood that his eight-year administration might have been influenced by a powerful political clique, commonly referred to as a “cabal.” Buhari, in response to questions about the grip of power during his tenure, admitted, “it must have been” when questioned about the role of a cabal in his administration.
While reflecting on his time leading the country, Buhari expressed uncertainty about individuals who breached the law being allowed to “walk away.”
He maintained that he did his best during his presidency, leaving the judgment of its effectiveness to the people, stating, “God gave me the opportunity to serve my country, but I did my best. But whether my best was good enough, I leave for people to judge.”
Addressing concerns about his focus on local matters over foreign issues, the former president emphasized that his primary challenge was ensuring the security of the country.
Buhari said that he refrained from competing with Nigeria’s wealthy class by acquiring significant assets during his leadership, claiming that this decision contributed to his post-government peace.
In an intriguing revelation, Buhari disclosed that some individuals attempted to set a trap for him by presenting certain opportunities.
However, he navigated these situations, recognizing the potential for compromise and the exploitation of the country if he fell into such traps.
The former president concluded that his avoidance of such compromises allowed him to exit government and “live in peace.”
