Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to halt its scheduled National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, set for November 15–16, 2025. Saraki emphasized that proceeding amid ongoing legal disputes could deepen internal divisions within the party.
In a statement personally signed following a meeting with the PDP Board of Trustees’ Reconciliation Team, led by Hassan Adamu, Saraki cautioned that the planned convention has become mired in both political and legal controversies. He recommended the establishment of a Caretaker Committee to temporarily manage party affairs and restore internal calm.
Saraki described the current situation as regrettable, noting that despite the dedication of many party members, the convention risks escalating conflicts and undermining the party’s credibility. He also highlighted the broader implications for Nigeria’s democracy.
He stated:
“It is clear that going ahead with the National Convention in Ibadan on November 15–16, 2025, will only serve to further fuel the present crisis. Therefore, going ahead with the Convention as scheduled is a waste of efforts. It does not have my support.”
Saraki further pointed out that conflicting court rulings regarding the convention’s legitimacy have created uncertainty, leaving the validity of both the exercise and its outcomes in question.
