Formula 4 is set to make its debut on the African continent with the launch of an exhilarating championship in Morocco.
Mygale, the renowned French constructor of F4 chassis, announced this week that the racing series will unfold on Moroccan national circuits from December 2024 to March 2025.
The Royal Motor Sports Federation (FRMSA), in collaboration with AGS, is organizing the championship, which welcomes drivers from various nationalities alongside local Moroccan talents.
The four-round series will feature the F4 Mygale of generation one, equipped with the Alpine 1.3-litre turbo engine formerly used by the FFSA Academy.
These first-generation cars, previously utilized in the centrally-run French F4 championship, add a nostalgic touch to the competition. Mygale expressed pride in contributing to the development of motorsport in Morocco, with the ultimate goal of establishing the country as a major player on the international racing scene.
Morocco, with its strong single-seater racing history, is no stranger to motorsport enthusiasts. The city of Marrakech, in particular, has been a magnet for Europe-based racing series over the last 15 years. Notably, its e-prix has been featured on the Formula E calendar five times since 2016.
The announcement comes at a time when Africa is increasingly becoming a hub for motorsport, with notable talents like South African pilot Raoul Hyman making waves at the top level in Super Formula.
The proximity of Morocco, merely nine miles from Europe’s north-west coast, symbolizes the bridging of continents through the language of motorsport.
