Fubara Assures Rivers People Of Strength Amid Political Crisis.

The suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured the people that the ongoing political crisis in the state will ultimately strengthen them rather than weaken them.

Speaking during a visit from Muslim leaders representing 20 Islamic-based groups, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, at his private residence in Port Harcourt, Fubara urged citizens to remain steadfast despite the prevailing tension. He acknowledged that the crisis might leave many feeling discouraged but suggested that supernatural forces may be influencing events beyond human understanding.

Fubara also warned against being drawn into acts of violence by individuals seeking to destabilise the state. “Their goal is to create problems and deny people their means of livelihood. We will not allow that. We will continue to operate peacefully and respect constituted authority to ensure that our state remains a model for others in Nigeria,” he stated.

He encouraged his supporters and the delegation to trust in divine guidance, adding, “This season is one of love, sharing, and sacrifice. You have come to share in our pain and have made a great sacrifice through your prayers. As Christians, we believe that everything happens for a purpose, and I strongly believe that this situation is leading us toward a greater purpose. No matter what we see, we must remain steadfast. In all things, we give glory to Almighty God. I believe that, in the end, we will emerge stronger.”

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to justice and equality, emphasising his vision for a fair society where no one is oppressed. “We believe in egalitarianism, and if our beliefs bring us some pain, so be it. The most important thing is that we stand on the side of truth and righteousness,” he asserted.

Although unable to formally reach out to the Muslim community during the Eid-el-Fitri celebrations, Fubara promised to strengthen the relationship between religious groups and the government once the current uncertainties are resolved. He also assured the Muslim leaders that their pending requests would be addressed once stability is restored.

Encouraging patience and perseverance, he remarked, “If God could be patient with Noah to allow even the snail to enter the Ark, then patience remains an essential virtue in our struggle.”

Muslim Leaders Declare Support for Fubara

Speaking on behalf of the Muslim Ummah, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor reaffirmed their solidarity with Fubara, pledging their prayers and support as he navigates the state’s political turmoil.

He commended the Governor’s inclusive approach to governance, noting that, unlike the previous administration which declared Rivers a 100% Christian state, Fubara had recognised the state as Christian-majority while ensuring inclusiveness for all religious groups.

Encouraging the Governor to remain resolute, Uhor reminded him of the Islamic belief that patience is rewarded by Allah. He explained that challenges such as these align with Islamic teachings, where trials involving wealth, power, and authority test the faith of believers.

Additionally, Uhor urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review the emergency rule in Rivers State and restore Fubara’s full authority, emphasising that the Governor has continued to perform effectively despite the crisis.

As Rivers State faces political uncertainties, Fubara’s call for peace and unity signals a commitment to overcoming the challenges through resilience and faith.
