Gabriel Heinze Set To Join Arsenal’s Coaching Staff Following Carlos Cuesta’s Move To Parma.

Arsenal Football Club is reportedly set to appoint Gabriel Heinze to Mikel Arteta’s coaching team, as the Gunners adjust to the departure of assistant manager Carlos Cuesta, who has been confirmed as Parma’s new head coach. The move comes as Arsenal continue their strong 2024-25 campaign, competing for the Premier League title and advancing in the UEFA Champions League.

Heinze, 47, a former team-mate of Arteta from their time at Paris Saint-Germain in the 2000-01 season, brings a wealth of experience as both a player and a coach. A Premier League winner with Manchester United in 2007 and a La Liga champion with Real Madrid in 2008, Heinze has since managed clubs in Argentina, including Vélez Sarsfield and Newell’s Old Boys, where he was recognised for his high-pressing, tactically astute approach. His potential role at Arsenal is expected to focus on defensive coaching, enhancing the solidity of a backline led by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, and mentoring the club’s young talents.

Cuesta’s appointment as Parma’s head coach was confirmed on 19 June 2025, with the 29-year-old Spaniard signing a two-year contract, with an option for a third, to become the youngest manager in Serie A since 1929. Having served as Arteta’s assistant since joining Arsenal from Juventus’ youth academy in August 2020, Cuesta played a key role in the club’s resurgence, contributing to FA Community Shield victories in 2020 and 2023. His departure for Parma, where he replaces Cristian Chivu, marks his first senior managerial role, with the Italian club praising his tactical acumen and player development skills.

Arsenal’s search for a replacement has reportedly led to Heinze, whose competitive mentality and experience align with Arteta’s vision. While the club has not officially confirmed Heinze’s appointment, discussions are believed to be advanced, with fans optimistic about the potential addition to the coaching staff. As Arsenal prepare for a crucial phase of the season, Heinze’s expertise could provide a seamless transition, supporting their ambitions for domestic and European silverware.
