The Global Centre for Empowerment and Care for Life Challenges (GECLC), a non-governmental organisation supported by the United Nations, has unveiled plans to construct 400,000 housing units across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This initiative is part of GECLC’s commitment to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically goals number 9 and 11, focusing on innovation and infrastructure, and sustainable cities and communities, respectively, within Nigeria by 2030.
Speaking at the project’s public launch press conference in Kaduna, Dr. Vincent Ejikeme Agbo, Chairman and Chief Executive of GECLC, revealed that the project would unfold in two phases, with 10,000 housing units earmarked for each state and the FCT.
Dr. Agbo emphasised that the project, set to later expand to other African countries, aims to catalyse socio-economic and developmental efforts in alignment with the objectives of both federal and state governments in Nigeria.
He articulated the vision of GECLC, stating, “Our purpose for organising this public launch is to promote, advocate, initiate, enlighten, and create beneficial interest for the general public towards Real Estate Housing and Industrial Development within the purview of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDG 9 and 11.”
The GECLC Chairman underscored the organization’s dedication to providing decent and affordable housing solutions for individuals across different demographics. He further highlighted ongoing collaborations with state governors and the Minister of the FCT to ensure seamless project execution.
Dr. Agbo also mentioned the recent groundbreaking ceremony held in Asaba, Delta State, in partnership with Frankly Royal View Limited, one of their contractors, signalling the commencement of this ambitious endeavour.
