In the solemnity of Good Friday, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, has urged Nigerian leaders and citizens alike to mirror the sacrificial spirit exemplified by Jesus Christ.
Speaking from Ibadan, Bishop Badejo emphasized the significance of Good Friday as a day of reflection on the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus for the redemption of humanity. He stated the need for leaders to embody qualities such as service, humility, and love in leadership and societal interactions.
In his address, Bishop Badejo called upon leaders in positions of authority and all Nigerians to emulate Jesus’ selfless example, stressing that the nation’s challenges can be overcome through sincere efforts towards the common good and the rejection of sin and evil.
“Nigeria is not beyond repair, but righteousness is the key to national exaltation,” He said.
He spoke further on the essence of Good Friday, elucidating that while Jesus’ suffering and death were marked by pain and injustice, they ultimately served as a beacon of hope and redemption for humanity. By sacrificing His life on the cross, Jesus demonstrated a profound example of selflessness and compassion.
“Good Friday beckons us to repentance, urging us to forsake sin and instead, engage in acts of kindness towards others, thus earning God’s favor,” Bishop Badejo remarked.
