Governor Sanwo-Olu Sympathises With FRCN Over Lagos Fire Incident.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the management and staff of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) following a fire incident at the Radio Nigeria Broadcasting House in Ikoyi. The fire, which occurred on Wednesday evening, affected two buildings, including the control rooms, music studios, and radio studios.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the incident as “unfortunate” and a significant loss for the FRCN.

The fire, as confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), reportedly originated from an air conditioning unit before spreading to adjacent buildings. The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, noted that swift action by emergency responders prevented further damage.

Governor Sanwo-Olu lamented the destruction caused by the inferno, which involved property and equipment worth millions of Naira. “It is with a heavy heart that I received the report of the fire outbreak that occurred at the Radio Nigeria Broadcasting House in Ikoyi. The incident is unfortunate, considering the amount of property and equipment destroyed,” he said.

The Governor extended his thoughts and prayers to the affected staff and management of the FRCN, offering reassurance of the government’s support during this difficult time.

He also commended the prompt response of emergency services, including the LASEMA Response Team, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, and LASAMBUS, whose efforts ensured that the fire was fully extinguished and that no lives were lost.

The incident highlights the importance of safety measures and quick emergency response in mitigating losses and safeguarding critical infrastructure.
