Governor Sule Urges Young Politicians To Prioritize Public Service Over Financial Gain

In a recent engagement with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) at the Government House in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi Sule underscored the resistance to change as a significant obstacle to his governance agenda.

Drawing from the insights of social psychologist Douglas McGregor’s Theory, Governor Sule lamented that many individuals in the state are reluctant to embrace responsibility and are resistant to change.

Governor Sule, who brings a wealth of experience from his tenure in various international and national corporations, expressed his motivation to enter public office as a means to give back to society.

He emphasised his commitment to instilling due process and transparency in governance, drawing from the structured approaches observed in his previous workplaces.

Upon assuming office, Governor Sule’s administration swiftly implemented the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to streamline revenue management and enhance transparency.

Additionally, the establishment of the Bureau for Public Procurement was enacted to ensure adherence to due process in all governmental transactions.

Despite these initiatives, Governor Sule expressed concern over the lack of appreciation for positive change among certain quarters, citing resistance from some officials accustomed to traditional methods.

He acknowledged the challenges of transitioning from the private sector to governance and stressed the importance of adapting to new paradigms.

Moreover, Governor Sule identified inadequate resources as a persistent challenge for Nasarawa State, particularly in light of its lower allocation from the federal government.

He expressed reluctance towards borrowing, emphasising the need for prudent financial management to avoid unsustainable debt burdens.

Despite these challenges, Governor Sule remains committed to fostering inclusive governance and maintaining security in Nasarawa State. His vision is to elevate the state to one of the three most competitive in the country, guided by principles of service and impact.

Governor Sule offered advice to aspiring young politicians, urging them to approach politics with a genuine intent to serve rather than viewing it solely as a means of financial gain.

He emphasised the importance of conscience-driven decision-making in navigating the complexities of political life.
