Govt Alone Cannot Fix Lagos Housing Deficit — Sanwo Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has stated that the Lagos State Government cannot independently solve the housing deficit facing the state, though he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reducing the gap.

He made this known during the commissioning of the Lagos Building Investment Company project and the Rising Lagos Apartment located in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo Olu praised the efforts of the Lagos Building Investment Company and its private sector partner, WGC, for their dedication and innovation in delivering new housing solutions for Lagos residents. He noted that such collaborations were essential in addressing the state’s growing housing needs.

The governor emphasized that government efforts alone would not be sufficient to tackle the scale of the housing challenge in Lagos. According to him, the state would continue developing creative strategies and fostering strong partnerships to ensure more residents have access to decent and affordable homes.

Sanwo Olu appealed to private developers and stakeholders in the real estate sector to take advantage of investment opportunities across the state. He encouraged them to collaborate with the government to meet the housing demands of the rapidly expanding population.

He added that through joint efforts, Lagos could achieve the vision of a Greater Lagos where more citizens benefit from improved housing infrastructure. The governor expressed optimism that public private partnerships would accelerate progress toward meeting these developmental goals.

Earlier in his remarks, the Managing Director of LBIC, Olusola Faleye, described the new housing scheme as an important milestone for both the state government and its residents, noting that it reflects a strong commitment to expanding accessible housing options in Lagos.
