Guardiola Vows To Stand By Man City, Even If Relegated

Guardiola Vows To Stand By Man City, Even If Relegated.

Pep Guardiola has made a resolute promise to Manchester City supporters, vowing to remain at the club even if they face relegation due to the ongoing investigation into alleged financial breaches. The Manchester City manager, who recently signed a two-year contract extension, is committed to staying until 2027, despite the uncertainty surrounding the club’s future.

Guardiola’s commitment comes amid serious charges against City, with the Premier League accusing the club of breaching financial regulations. While a verdict on the 115 charges is not expected until early next year, the consequences could range from significant fines to points deductions or, in the worst-case scenario, relegation. However, Guardiola’s loyalty to the club remains unwavering.

“I said that six months ago, and I stand by it,” Guardiola said ahead of Manchester City’s upcoming match against Tottenham. “When all the clubs accused us of doing something wrong and people ask, ‘What happens if we are relegated?’ I will be here. I don’t know what position that will put us in — the Conference? But we will come back. I knew it then, and I feel it now.”

Guardiola had previously stated that he would manage City in League One if necessary, underlining his strong belief in the club’s resilience. However, he made it clear that the current situation was not a factor in his decision to extend his contract. Instead, Guardiola’s primary focus has been on addressing the team’s recent struggles, which have seen them suffer four consecutive defeats for the first time in his managerial career.

“I don’t think about the relegation issue,” Guardiola said. “Seventy-five per cent of the clubs want it, because I know what happens behind the scenes. But I live with the challenges on the pitch. There are lawyers involved on both sides, and my job is to focus on getting the team back to winning ways.”

Guardiola explained that the decision to sign a two-year contract extension, rather than a one-year deal, was made to avoid constant speculation about his future next season. “I don’t want next season to be all about whether I will extend my contract again,” he added. “In the end, the contract is there, and I would like to stay for two more years. But if the results are not good, I won’t stay. Everyone is under pressure.”

The contract negotiations were concluded swiftly, with Guardiola revealing that he and the club reached an agreement in just two hours. Reflecting on his achievements at City, Guardiola expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities, saying, “Maybe I’m arrogant, but I think we deserve to continue for what we’ve done in the last few years.”

Despite the current challenges, Guardiola’s loyalty and belief in Manchester City remain steadfast, and his future at the club seems secure, regardless of the outcome of the ongoing investigations.
