Harry Kane And Bayern Munich Set Champions League Record In 9:2 Demolition Of Dynamo Zagreb

Harry Kane Shines with Four-Goal Display As Bayern Munich Set Champions League Record.

Harry Kane continued his prolific form for Bayern Munich with a stunning four-goal performance in a record-breaking 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb. The 31-year-old England captain hit new milestones as Bayern became the first team to score nine goals in a Champions League match, in what was a dominant display by the German champions.

Kane’s remarkable night saw him break several records, including surpassing Wayne Rooney as the top English scorer in Champions League or European Cup history with 33 goals in just 45 games. He also became the first English player to score four goals in a Champions League game, and the first to score a hat-trick or more for a non-English club in the competition.

Reflecting on the achievement, Kane said: “Whenever you’re in a conversation with Wayne Rooney, it means you’re doing something well. He’s one of the greatest English players and one of the best players there was in the game. It’s a nice achievement.”

Kane’s four goals – his 50th, 51st, 52nd, and 53rd for Bayern Munich in his 50th appearance – included three penalties, making him the first player to score a hat-trick of penalties in a Champions League or European Cup match. He also netted a rebound after Joshua Kimmich’s shot was saved and had a goal disallowed before narrowly missing a fifth goal with a late volley. Had he scored that final chance, Kane would have joined Erling Haaland as the only player to score five goals in a Champions League game.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Kane joked about his growing collection of match balls: “I keep all the balls after hat-tricks. The lads might be sick of signing them, but keep them coming.” He also added a personal touch, saying, “My son Louis loves playing football right now, he’s only three, but I’ll take it [the match ball] home and put it next to his bed and he’ll be happy when he wakes up in the morning.”

Bayern Munich’s Ruthless Attack

Bayern Munich’s victory was historic in more ways than one. The nine goals marked the first time a team had scored nine in a European Cup match since Real Madrid’s 9-1 win over Wacker Innsbruck in the 1990-91 season. It also tied for the second-highest scoring game in Champions League history and became the third-largest margin of victory in the competition.

Under new manager Vincent Kompany, Bayern have made a flying start to the season, winning all four of their opening games and netting 20 goals in the process. This success comes after a disappointing season where Bayern finished without a trophy for the first time in over a decade, leading to Thomas Tuchel’s departure and Kompany’s appointment.

Despite the resounding victory, Kompany remains focused on the bigger picture. “We’re not managing expectations right now,” he said. “The final in Munich next year is a dream for the fans, a dream that needs to live. My priority is just to focus on each game, one at a time, rebuild the energy and the desire to win.”

A Bright Start to Bayern’s European Campaign

Kane’s explosive start to the season, with nine goals in five games for Bayern, has elevated expectations for the club in this year’s Champions League. European football journalist Mina Rzouki said, “I think Bayern Munich are going to be the team to beat. There was criticism aimed at Vincent Kompany when he got the job, but what a way to start your Champions League campaign.”

Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena will host this season’s Champions League final, and with Kane in such formidable form, the club will undoubtedly have their sights set on lifting the trophy on home soil.
