Harry Kane has etched his name in Bundesliga history with a stunning hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s 3-0 victory over Augsburg, reaching 50 Bundesliga goals at the fastest pace ever.
The England captain needed just three goals to hit the landmark, and he achieved it in style. Kane opened the scoring in the 63rd minute with a penalty, before adding two more in injury time. His second goal came from the spot once again, after being fouled by Keven Schlotterbeck, who was subsequently sent off for a second yellow card. Kane completed his hat-trick in the final moments of the match, heading home a beautifully controlled ball to seal his place in history.
Having reached 50 goals in just 43 Bundesliga matches, Kane surpassed Erling Haaland’s previous record of 50 goals in 50 games for Borussia Dortmund, before the Norwegian joined Manchester City.
The win was also significant for Bayern Munich, as it propelled them eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. With nine wins and two draws from their 11 matches, Bayern remain unbeaten in the league.
Reflecting on the match, Kane said, “We knew it would be difficult to break them down. We knew we had to be patient. At half-time that’s what we said, ‘we just have to keep doing what we’re doing.’ Thankfully, we got the penalty to open the game up and then did well to kill the game off.”
The 31-year-old striker has been in superb form this season, with 14 goals in 11 Bundesliga matches, including five penalties. “I work on them a lot,” Kane admitted. “They’re a big part of the game. They helped us again today. Of course, I’ve missed many in training, but that’s the time to miss them.”
Kane’s sensational form this season has seen him score 20 goals in all competitions so far. He made headlines earlier in the season with a remarkable four goals in Bayern’s 9-2 demolition of Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. This feat saw Kane become the top English scorer in Champions League history, with 33 goals in 45 games, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s previous record of 30.
In what has already been a record-breaking campaign, Kane also became the first English player to score four goals in a Champions League match. With his remarkable consistency, Kane continues to solidify his legacy as one of the Premier League’s greatest exports to Europe.
