ICPC Arraigns NSITF Staff Member For Forgery And Fraud.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Tiemo Joy Alabogha, an employee of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), on six charges related to forgery, fraudulent intent, and making false statements.
Alabogha appeared before Justice Ogbonaya at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Zuba. According to court documents, she allegedly presented a forged Bachelor of Education certificate from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) to NSITF, despite knowing it was not authentic. This action reportedly contravenes Section 364 of the Penal Code, Laws of the FCT.
In addition to presenting the forged certificate, Alabogha is accused of submitting a false letter claiming to confirm the certificate’s authenticity from UNICAL. This act, as outlined in the charges, breaches Section 25(1)(a) and is punishable under Section 68 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act of 2000.
The defence counsel requested bail for Alabogha, and the ICPC’s prosecuting counsel, Aniekan Ekong, did not oppose this but requested that any bail granted should include strict terms to ensure her presence at trial. Justice Ogbonaya ordered Alabogha’s remand at the Suleja Custodial Facility pending a decision on her bail application.
The case has been adjourned until 19 February 2025 for the hearing of the substantive charges.
