Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has visited Kebbi State following the abduction of twenty five female students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School Maga under the Zuru emirate.
His visit came as security agencies continue efforts to track the bandits and secure the safe return of the victims.
During the visit, the IGP is expected to stop at the Kebbi State Police Command in Birnin Kebbi where he will speak to officers and boost the morale of personnel involved in the rescue operations. According to officials, the Commissioner of Police Bello Sani will receive him for further discussions on strengthening security responses.
Police authorities said the IGP’s mission was also to offer sympathy and support to Governor Nasir Idris over the disturbing abduction incident. A senior official who witnessed the engagement said the police leadership “is committed to doing everything necessary to bring the girls home safely”.
The visit follows earlier concerns raised by federal lawmakers over the rising insecurity affecting schools in rural communities. The Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas had visited Kebbi less than twenty four hours earlier, where he and his delegation donated twenty million naira to the parents of the abducted students.
During that visit, the Speaker appealed to the Federal Government to honour the late vice principal of the school who lost his life during the attack. He recommended that the school be renamed after him as a way to immortalise his sacrifice. Community members described the gesture as “a message of hope during a painful period”.
The IGP’s arrival in Kebbi adds momentum to ongoing rescue operations as security agencies intensify efforts across the affected forest areas. Residents expressed optimism that the combined visits from national leaders will speed up actions aimed at restoring peace to the region.
