The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Mr. John Nwosu, has pledged to abolish the current revenue collection system and end the menace of multiple taxation if elected in the November 8 election.
Speaking during an online interactive session with Anambra indigenes in the United States under the platform of ASA-USA, Nwosu described some revenue enforcers in the state as “street terrorists” and vowed to remove them from the roads immediately after assuming office.
He said, “Multiple taxation is a major problem in Anambra State, and I will end it. My government will operate a 100 per cent e-governance system that will eliminate physical revenue collectors from the streets.”
The ADC candidate explained that under his proposed e-transportation system, registered operators would no longer be subjected to harassment. “Once you register, you won’t face any form of intimidation. We will remove those touts from the roads completely,” he assured.
On inter-state taxation, Nwosu said he would collaborate with other governors in the South-East to introduce a computerized sticker system similar to the one used in the South-West. The initiative, he noted, would help reduce multiple levies on transporters across the region.
He added that the sticker system would be designed to ensure transparency. “If you register in Anambra State, 50 per cent of the tariff will go to the state, while the remaining 50 per cent will be shared among other states. The sticker will have security features to confirm its authenticity through a smartphone,” he said.
Nwosu, an ICT expert, also promised to introduce modern governance reforms, engaging professionals and consultants from the diaspora to help implement his digital-driven development plans.
