In the aftermath of the impeachment of Hon. Kunle Oluomo as the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, fresh details have surfaced surrounding the events leading to his removal.
The newly appointed Speaker, Hon Oludaisi Elemide, now holds the reins following Oluomo’s ousting amid allegations ranging from financial fraud to inadequate leadership.
Hon Soneye Damilola Kayode, representing Obafemi Owode Constituency, shed light on the situation, revealing that Oluomo had misled the Assembly by falsely claiming that Governor Dapo Abiodun was withholding funds from the House. Kayode asserted that, in reality, the governor had been providing financial support, but Oluomo had allegedly embezzled the funds intended for the lawmakers.
According to Kayode, Oluomo’s divisive tactics further fueled internal discord among the Assembly members. He disclosed that Oluomo consistently incited members against each other, creating an untenable atmosphere within the legislative body.
Kayode highlighted an instance where Oluomo allegedly misappropriated funds allocated for quarters’ allowance, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency in the handling of public funds.
Reflecting the discontent among members, Kayode stated, “We have now changed the leadership of the House. The House is now under the leadership of Hon Elemide, and we remain united. He (Oluomo) should go and clear his name with the EFCC.”
The call for Oluomo to address the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) underscores the gravity of the allegations, marking a significant development in the ongoing political upheaval within the Ogun State House of Assembly.
