Cameroon and Guinea played out a 1-1 draw in a heated encounter at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in the second Group C game of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023.

The Guineans took an early lead through Mohamed Bayo. Who found himself in space inside the box and he gleefully pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty box to place the ball beyond the reach of Fabrice Ondoa to give Guinea the lead against the five times champions, Cameroon.

Guinea captain, Francois Kamano however was sent off after a rough tackle on Cameroonian midfielder, Olivier Ntcham towards the end of the first half.

It took the intervention of the VAR to rule off the initial Yellow Card given by Referee Mutaz Ibrahim and he didn’t hesitate to change the yellow to red after the review by VAR.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon took advantage of the numerical disadvantage of the Guineans in the second half as their much awaited equalizer came by.

Cameroon got their much awaited equalizer six minutes into the second half following Frank Magri’s show of superb aerial ability to pounce onto a free kick to bring the game level 1-1 on the scoreline.

Cameroon couldn’t get the all important second goal and they eventually settled for a draw.

Next up for them is an all important fixture against defending champions, Senegal on Friday, January 19 at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium. And they will be hoping they can get something out of that encounter to keep their dream alive.
