The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has refuted claims that it disobeyed a court order in a case involving the Action Alliance, AA, describing the reports as misleading and unfounded.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Commission clarified that it has always respected judicial directives and operated strictly within the provisions of the law. INEC said the allegation suggesting that it ignored a ruling related to the party’s leadership dispute was an attempt to discredit the integrity of the electoral body.
According to the statement, INEC explained that its decisions regarding political parties are guided by valid court judgments and official communications from the appropriate judicial authorities. It maintained that the Commission would never act outside the framework of the law or disregard a binding order of court.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency, and the rule of law in all electoral matters, emphasizing that its role is to ensure credible elections and not to interfere in internal party conflicts.
The Commission urged the public to disregard false narratives circulating in the media and reiterated its readiness to comply with all lawful orders issued by competent courts of jurisdiction.
