Mohammed Idris, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, has revealed plans to implement transformative reforms aimed at revitalizing the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
During his working visit to the two iconic media establishments in Kaduna, the minister acknowledged their historical significance but emphasized their decline due to neglect, poor work attitudes, and outdated infrastructure.
Minister Idris assured that the administration of President Tinubu would rejuvenate NTA and FRCN, positioning them as trailblazers in Nigeria’s broadcasting sector.
Addressing the challenges faced by these institutions, he stressed the need to explore realistic approaches for restoring their lost glory.
The minister highlighted the dire situation of FRCN at both national and state levels, particularly at Radio Nigeria, Kaduna, which he described as a “once prestigious bastion of information” that has produced numerous broadcast icons.
He pledged urgent resuscitation for Radio Nigeria Kaduna, emphasizing the importance of acting promptly on this rescue mission.
Minister Idris, accompanied by the Directors General of NTA and FRCN, Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos and Dr. Mohammed Bulama, respectively, expressed President Tinubu’s commitment to the revitalization process.
He assured the management, staff, and stakeholders that the appointed directors-general were chosen based on their capacity to turn around the fortunes of NTA and FRCN.
The minister acknowledged the evolving media landscape and stressed the importance of embracing cutting-edge technologies to stay relevant, enhance efficiency, and reach a wider audience.
He concluded the visit by inspecting major operational facilities, including transmission stations, at both NTA and FRCN.
