The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), representing all 36 states, has committed to enhancing collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) to address escalating security challenges across the country.
In a communiqué issued after their fifth meeting, the governors expressed concern over recent attacks on lives and property in various parts of the nation. They emphasized the necessity of improved intelligence sharing and coordination with federal security agencies to promote peace and stability.
The meeting featured a presentation by the Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, who outlined emerging security threats and intelligence-led strategies aimed at strengthening subnational coordination. The briefing focused on countering violent extremism, managing inter-communal tensions, and addressing security risks linked to economic hardship and political transitions.
The governors expressed appreciation to the DSS for its proactive engagement and reiterated their commitment to deepening intelligence sharing and collaboration with federal security agencies to enhance peace and stability across the states.
In addition to security matters, the governors discussed economic stability and gender representation. They called on themselves to rally support for the Reserved Seats for Women Bill, describing it as a vital step toward gender equity and inclusive governance.
The communiqué also highlighted the Central Bank of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to restore price stability and strengthen confidence in the economy. The governors commended the CBN’s coordinated approach with fiscal authorities and underscored the importance of sustained collaboration to safeguard growth and state fiscal sustainability.
