Biden emphasized the importance of refraining from speculation and noted that the identification process is ongoing.
The conflict, which began on October 7 when Hamas launched attacks on Israel, has led to a significant humanitarian toll.
The health ministry in Gaza reports that at least 40,691 Palestinians have been killed and 94,060 injured since the onset of the military offensive. The initial Hamas attacks resulted in 1,200 Israeli casualties and approximately 250 hostages taken.
In addition to the situation in Gaza, clashes have intensified in the West Bank. Israeli forces are conducting one of their largest operations in months in the city of Jenin, which has seen significant Israeli troop activity since Wednesday.
President Biden expressed optimism about a potential ceasefire, stating, “I think we’re on the verge of having an agreement.” He highlighted ongoing negotiations and the consensus on the principles needed to end the conflict, asserting, “It’s time this war ended.”
