Commemorating the International Women’s Day, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to advancing the development and welfare of women.
Addressing attendees at this year’s commemoration event held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, themed ‘Count Her In: Accelerating Gender Equality Through Economic Empowerment,’ Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, stated the indispensable role of women in driving societal progress and need of empowering women economically as a catalyst for positive societal transformation.
He acknowledged the resilience and invaluable contributions of women to the growth and development of Lagos State, pledging continued support to overcome the barriers hindering their individual and collective advancement.
Buttressing the governor, Lagos First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, urged mothers to prioritize proper home training and vigilance against drug abuse among children, emphasizing the important role of education in attaining lofty aspirations.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Hon. Cecilia Bolaji Dada, emphasized that investing in women transcends moral obligation, presenting a strategic investment in collective future prosperity.
She highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing root causes of poverty, inequality, and discrimination, promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment across Lagos State.
With a call to action directed at stakeholders including government and civil society, Commissioner Dada urged accelerated progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment.
She advocated for the creation of an inclusive and supportive environment enabling every woman and girl to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
